ŠKODA AUTO opened a highly modern crash laboratory at a test polygon in Úhelnice near Mladá Boleslav

ŠKODA AUTO commissioned a highly modern crash laboratory. The test facility, located at the test track in Úhelnice near Mladá Boleslav, is designed for all known crash test scenarios, primarily the new European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) regulations valid from the beginning of 2020. LED-based lighting systems and state-of-the-art camera technology provide high-quality documentation of all crash tests while also allowing significant energy savings. After handling the crash test, ŠKODA AUTO has newly established its own zone for handling electric vehicles. In the future, it will be possible to carry out passive safety tests of both ŠKODA models and cars of other Volkswagen Group brands in the new laboratory.

Christian Strube, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development, explains: “Our new crash laboratory allows us to provide even more extensive and realistic conditions for closer accident simulation, thus creating an important basic technical prerequisite for further enhancing the safety of our cars. . In addition, the test equipment also complies with all the technical requirements for testing electric vehicles. In the coming years, we will continue to expand our crash test capacities. With our crash laboratory, we again take on another responsibility within the entire Volkswagen Group ”.
